Werribee Sewerage Farm

Using water from the treatment plant, The Werribee Sewerage Farm south-west of Melbourne has been irrigating about 8000 hectares of land since 1897. Over the years, this irrigation infrastructure has become inefficient and out-of-date. Rich River Irrigation Developments have been engaged by the managers of this farm to redesign the irrigation paddocks to meet modern farming practises. This is a long term project, which we are about a third of the way through, as each year only 300-600 hectares can be taken out of production to be redeveloped. Our involvement has been to conduct detail surveys of each site to be developed, determine water supply available to each site, determine drainage outflow locations of each site, provide concept planning for the whole farm complex, and designing paddocks for laser grading to achieve desired slopes for irrigation.
